Community Connect Set To Land in East

Community Connect is set to land in Scotmid’s East Member Region in May – a major new initiative exclusive to Scotmid Co-operative members which enables you to make a difference in your community.

If you are interested in becoming a member then please ask for an application form when you’re in your local store and pay £1.

If you’re already a member then your Community Connect card will arrive via the post in the week commencing 7 May.

Community Connect is Scotmid Co-operative’s innovative way of distributing the funds raised from the sale of single-use carrier bags to good cause groups in the community. As a Scotmid member, you can help decide how £25,000 is shared between three good cause groups every six months.

At the end of this month you will be sent a Community Connect Membership card – every time you shop in a participating Scotmid store you scan your Community Connect card to receive one Community Connect vote.

You can cast the votes you collect by registering and attending the Scotmid Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) in October 2018 to allocate financial awards of up to £15,000 to three Good Cause Groups who have been selected by a panel of Scotmid employees and members. After the meeting we’ll reset everyone’s votes to zero, select three new Good Cause Groups and begin the whole process again.

There’s also a personal benefit for you as a member – each time you scan your card in store you will be entered into the Community Connect prize draw where you could win up to £100 in Scotmid vouchers every month.

The trial of Community Connect commenced in our North Member Region last year and proved to be a huge success with Dundee-based charity 18 and Under awarded £15,000 funding. We’ll announce the three Good Cause Groups in your area in May.

Look out for your Community Connect card arriving in the post – you can start collecting votes as soon as you receive it.
