Scotmid gives early Christmas present to Dundee Fiveways Centre

Dundee’s Fiveways Centre received an early Christmas present today with the presentation of a £500 Scotmid Community Grant.  Cathy Kelly, Manager at Scotmid’s Clepington Road branch, joined in the festive fun at the centre’s Christmas lunch and made the presentation to board members, volunteers and clients.

The grant, awarded by Scotmid’s North Regional Committee, is to support the Fiveways Centre in purchasing a new cooker so that clients can continue to enjoy lunches and treats cooked on site.

Clare Fulton, Fundraising Officer for Age Concern Dundee, made the grant application to Scotmid.  Clare said, “For a while now, the Centre has needed a production kitchen in which healthy, varied, nutritional, appetising meals could be prepared.  We have the kitchen up and running and the clients are delighted with their tasty new menus however our antiquated cooker is proving to be a challenge and it really needs replaced.  The grant from Scotmid will make this a reality much sooner so that our clients at the Fiveways Centre can continue to enjoy lovely meals, freshly cooked on the premises.”

Scotmid’s North Regional Committee is made up of eight, elected Scotmid members.  The committee meets regularly to consider grant applications from community groups, charities and non-profit organisations from Perth to the Northern Isles.

North Committee Vice-Chair, Richard McCready commented, “The Fiveways Club has offered a fantastic service to the city’s senior citizens for many years and long may they continue to do so.  It is a pleasure to be able to give them a little boost in the festive season and I hope that the centre manages to get a new cooker soon.  On behalf of Scotmid’s North Regional Committee, I wish everyone at Age Concern Dundee a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
