A new community cinema in Balerno has been given a boost after receiving a £2,000 grant from Scotmid Co-operative.
Balerno Village Screen, which opened in December last year at Balerno Parish Church, offers free cinema admission to the local community. The cinema is entirely funded by donations and is run by a team of volunteers.
The community grant from Scotmid Co-operative will help fund equipment for the cinema, including a projector, screen, speakers and lighting.
Spokesperson Martin Gemmell said:
“Balerno Village Screen is a community cinema funded entirely by donations. Our aim is to bring the community together to share in the enjoyment of watching films. We are grateful for the support we have received from Scotmid which will help to upgrade our equipment.
Malcolm Brown, Head of Corporate Communications for Scotmid Co-operative said:
“Scotmid Co-operative is delighted to award this community grant to Balerno Village Screen. This new community cinema is a wonderful initiative for the local community and will be a welcome addition to Balerno.”
