New Lakes and Dales Co-operative store opens in Keswick

Shoppers in Keswick came together for the opening of the new-look Lakes and Dales Co-operative store in the town today (17 December 2013), following a modern refurbishment.

Pupils from the Braithwaite Church of England Primary School were joined by Fairtrade Town Crier, Bob Bryden, and long term customer, Karen Brocklebank, to officially open the store. The school was also presented with a cheque for £750 from Lakes and Dales Co-operative.

The Keswick Lakes and Dales Co-operative store, formerly Penrith Co-operative, has been transformed with a modern new design, new fridges and freezers, and extra customer services.

Shoppers will now enjoy a bigger choice of fresh fruit and vegetables, speciality bread, chilled food, frozen food and wine. The store’s exterior and interior has had a makeover and now sports a black and green livery.

Store Manager, Rebecca Smith, said: “The store has completely changed – it looks fresh, bright and modern. One of the best things about our new store is that we now have new fridges and freezers to give customers a bigger choice of chilled and frozen food. There’s also a much larger range of fresh produce. We are delighted with how the store looks and we are looking forward to hearing what our customers think of their new Keswick Lakes and Dales Co-operative.”

The opening of the Keswick store follows the re-launch of Lazonby Lakes and Dales Co-operative earlier this month, following the merger between Penrith and Scotmid Co-operative Societies in August. Lakes and Dales Co-operative has been selected as the new trading name for the nine Penrith Co-operative stores in the Eden Valley and Lake Districts in Cumbria, and the Weardale Valley in County Durham.

The new-look Keswick Lakes and Dales Co-operative is located at St James Court, Keswick, Cumbria CA12 5EF and is open 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
