Scotmid Supports Scotland Badminton Player

Scotmid Co-operative are proud to sponsor badminton star and Scotmid member Alex Dunn, who flies off to Australia today to compete in the 2018 Commonwealth Games with Team Scotland.

The 19-year-old from Motherwell has been named in the eight-strong badminton team that will represent Scotland and Alex will compete in both the overall team event and also in the men’s doubles alongside partner Adam Hall.

Alex and Adam are currently ranked 47th in the world in doubles and the pair won bronze at the European Junior Championships in 2015.

But it hasn’t been plain sailing for Alex, who has type 1 diabetes – nevertheless he has successfully managed his condition in order to make it all the way to compete in the Commonwealth Games, which starts in April at the Gold Coast.

Scotmid have sponsored the teenager, who has a great chance of achieving a memorable podium finish – something Alex says he is extremely appreciative about.

Alex said: “I’m really excited about competing in the Commonwealth Games and very grateful to Scotmid for providing their valuable support.

“As a young athlete, sponsorship provided by Scotmid has really helped me to prepare and enabled me to focus on achieving my goals in badminton.

“I’m a Scotmid member and I’m proud to be representing Scotland at badminton – hopefully we can win a medal.”

Good luck Alex and Team Scotland – everybody at Scotmid will be cheering you on!
