The new-look Scotmid Co-operative store in Moredun reopened its doors on Friday (6 April) with the introduction of pioneering eco-friendly initiatives – saving energy, reducing costs and promoting greater sustainability.
The store received widespread recognition in 2015; being named the Convenience Retail Awards Energy Efficient Store of the Year and Scottish Grocer Awards Winner Sustainable Retailer of the Year.
Now the Moredun store, which has experienced a modernisation, has undergone further progressive changes including a new energy efficient plant run on Co2 and the effective control and management of refrigeration.
The convenience store, which features a Post Office, now has a greater emphasis on produce from local suppliers, enhanced food-to-go ranges and other progressive changes.
Moredun’s food-to-go offering now includes Costa Express coffee, Rollover hotdogs, Big Al’s Burgers and chicken plus produce from Goodfellow & Steven – something for everyone.
When the doors reopened, the first 50 customers were all rewarded with shopping bags filled with daily essential groceries.
Plus they also received envelopes containing golden tickets that entitled lucky recipients to unforgettable gifts.
The first two customers through the doors, Ruth and Amy Murray were presented with bouquets of flowers while Keir Thomson’s golden ticket enabled him to win a free Fitbit and Nicole Halliday was the lucky recipient of a new 40” Smart TV.
