- Convenience retailer enhances successful Food to Go offer with burgers and world champion pizza
Scotmid is introducing an evening ‘takeaway’ offering in five of our stores from September to meet ever-changing customer demands in the next stage in our innovative Food to Go offering.
The unique ‘takeaway’ menus are an extension of the stores’ existing Food to Go offer, which has grown substantially over the past five years, and will be available to customers from 4-9pm seven days-a-week.
The initiative comes as the fast food convenience out of home market is expected to grow 4.1% in 2019* and also after it was revealed this week by the British Takeaway Campaign that Scots splashed out £1bn on takeaways in 2018.
In Edinburgh and Drumnadrochit, Scotmid has partnered with gourmet burger specialists, Big Al’s Burger Bar, to offer customers flame cooked burgers with Brioche buns.
Scotmid has also linked up with the Pizza Art brand to offer ‘takeaways’ to customers in three stores in Edinburgh, West Lothian and Elgin. Pizza Art originates from Rome and has previously held the top spot in the Pizza World Championships thanks to its authentic style sour dough pizza base.
The new concepts will only be available in five Scotmid stores to start with and thousands of Scotmid customers are expected to benefit from the new offers.
Danny Scobie, Food To Go Operations Manager at Scotmid, said: “In the majority of our stores, fifty per cent of the footfall comes after five o’clock and we know from customer research over the last few years that they are looking for more options around meal solutions. With people’s lives becoming increasingly time poor, it’s important that we offer our customers convenient and quick food on the move, without hindering on quality. Our customers look for premium products that are also great value. The introduction of our burger and pizza takeaways do just that.”
- Big Al’s Burger Bar will open in two stores:
- Kingsknowe in Edinburgh from 4th September
- Drumnadrochit in Inverness from 25th September
- The Pizza Art takeaway will launch in three stores:
- Carrickknowe in Edinburgh from 12th September
- Thornhill in Elgin from 26th September
- Polbeth in West Calder from 10th October
Both partners will provide an extensive menu for customers made fresh to order and provide the opportunity to personalise orders. The burger bar will offer an array of salad, sauce and side options. The Pizza Art menu will also include a Chicken Tikka pizza choice which has been developed on the back of customer demand following menu tasting taking place.
The competitively priced products will see burger deals starting from £3.79 and a 12” Margherita pizzas starting from £4.
Scotmid’s Food to Go offer branded the kitchen currently includes Costa Express, breakfast rolls, hot savouries, local craft bakery and burgers in all stores as well as soup, freshly made baguettes, salad bowls and hot chicken in a large amount of stores.
Kevin Plant, Head of Scotmid Food, said: “The takeaway market has gained huge traction in the last few years and especially so around enjoying gourmet foods at home. Whilst we already offer an extensive ‘Food to Go’ offer in a number of our stores, we have listened to our customers who have been keen to be able to pick-up premium and tasty takeaway items to help juggle their busy lives, whether that be when en route home from work or picking up a treat during a busy weekend.
“Whilst our new concepts will only available in five stores initially, we hope to roll these out to other stores in the future.”
