Scotmid Supports Christmas ‘Toy Giveaway’

Scotmid Co-operative stores across the North Lanarkshire region have supported the ‘Toy Giveaway’ for the second year running to help brighten Christmas for 1,000 children across the area.

A donation of £600 was made to the local charity event, led by Martine Nolan, to help provide food and drink, and create a fun experience at events throughout December in Wishaw, Motherwell and Bellshill.

Martine said: “Once again we are overwhelmed by the generosity of people in North Lanarkshire. We have seen a huge response this year and a rise in the amount of funds, toys and time donated by the local community has allowed us to double our previous outputs and reach more children than ever before.  We can’t thank Scotmid enough for its continued support and the impact this donation will have on our ability to hold fun-filled events for the kids. It’s lovely to see so many people coming together for such a wonderful cause, and we’re excited for our upcoming events in Motherwell and Bellshill.”

The ‘Toy Giveaway’ seeks to reduce debt during what tends to be an expensive period for families, easing the financial burden and stress associated with Christmas. Championed by North Lanarkshire Council, the events follow the recent ‘Give a toy – Spread the joy’ campaign which saw people from across the region donate toys for children of all ages. The year’s ‘Toy Giveaway’ builds on a successful 2016 event which resulted in 400 children benefitting from Scotmid’s donations.

Scotmid Co-operative CEO, John Brodie, added: “We are more than happy to show our support again this year for the ‘Toy Giveaway’. It’s wonderful to see the cause expand on its success last year and be in a position to help more children in the area. Martine and her team do a fantastic job in bringing a smile to so many children’s faces and this is very much a charity close to our employees and customers across the local community.”
