Jack Vettriano launches charity bag for Maggie’s with Scotmid Co-operative

Renowned artist Jack Vettriano and Scotmid Co-operative today launched an exclusive eco-friendly shopping bag to raise funds for Maggie’s Centres.

The limited edition cotton bag features Jack Vettriano’s acclaimed artwork, Anniversary Waltz, which has been specially licensed by the artist. It is hoped that the initiative will raise over £10,000 for Maggie’s, who are Scotmid Co-operative’s charity of the year.

Only 5,000 charity bags will be in circulation and are available from all Scotmid Co-operative stores for £2 from 20 May 2013, with 100% of the purchase price donated to Maggie’s. The Society has raised over £150,000 for Maggie’s so far.

Jack Vettriano is a long-term supporter of Maggie’s, following a visit to Maggie’s Fife in Kirkcaldy, just miles from his home town of Methil. In 2010 Jack Vettriano raised over £20,000 for Maggie’s when his famous image, Lets Twist Again, went on sale as the First Ministers chosen Christmas Card.

Maggie’s offers free emotional, practical and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.  The unique programme of support on offer at Maggie’s Centres across the UK include drop in sessions with a professional Cancer Support Specialist, nutrition classes and art therapy.Jack Vettriano said: “I am delighted to lend my support to Scotmid’s fundraising campaign for Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres – I have seen the brilliant work they do first hand in my hometown, Kirkcaldy, and hope that their network of centres continues to grow with our support.”

Gemma Branney, Senior Corporate Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s said: “Jack Vettriano has been a fantastic supporter of Maggie’s for many years now and we are delighted that he has came together with Scotmid to develop this gorgeous bag. We are sure it will be a huge success with Scotmid customers and will go a long way in raising vital funds for our network of cancer support Centres.”

Malcolm Brown, Head of Corporate Communications for Scotmid Co-operative said: “Scotmid Co-operative is honoured that Jack Vettriano has enabled us to launch this limited edition bag in our stores to raise funds for Maggie’s, who provide invaluable support to people with cancer, as well as their family and friends.
